Stand Up For Righteousness
Since this is an election year I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all Christians to register to vote and then vote. The only way we will see change in our society is to tell our elected officials that we hold them responsible for righteousness. This year is very important because Washington State Legislators are going to bring a bill before the State House and State Senate seeking to legalize same-sex marriage. There are Democrats and Republicans who support a same-sex marriage bill and it is important that we remind them who votes in this state.
Not long ago I was in a meeting with some fellow pastors discussing this issue. One of the pastors in the meeting was Dr. Kenneth L. Hutcherson the Senior Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Kirkland. He encouraged the group of pastors with this statement, “Mist in the pulpit usually means fog in the congregation.” His encouragement for us was, “Pastors preach the word. Teach your people what the Bible says about these issues so that they might have a good biblical understanding of what it is they believe.”
I agree churches in America need to get back to preaching the Word of God in all of its power and purpose. When it comes to same-sex marriage the Bible could not be clearer;
Rom 1:21-27
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator — who is forever praised. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

As followers of Jesus Christ it is our responsibility to understand the political issues that are being discussed and then call our local representatives and stand up for righteousness. Here are a few things you can do;
- Pray for your government
- Contact your legislator at the State level and tell them you support traditional marriage.
- Vote for those who have the same moral beliefs that you do.
- Stay informed and educated about the issues.
For those in Washington State here is the Legislative Hotline 1-800-562-6000, call them and give them your address and your message; they will deliver your message to your legislator. Tell them you are taking a stance on behalf of traditional marriage. Same-sex marriage is morally wrong and the people of God can no longer be silent on this issue; stand up and be counted!
It has been suggested that faith and politics must stand separate and that a person can have a political agenda that goes against the Word of God, because the current cultural sees it as acceptable. I cannot vote for a political candidate that supports same-sex marriage or abortion, because these things are considered sins in God’s word.
